5. Integrative Acupuncture Cancer Care Workshop

Course Description

Many cancer centers are hiring acupuncturists to treat a variety of side effects which arise during their patients’ treatment. And many more cancer patients are surviving their cancer, and seeking acupuncture for the lingering symptoms of their chemotherapy or radiation treatment. The Integrative Acupuncture Cancer Care Workshop consists of three courses over two days.

“Integrative Acupuncture Cancer Care for TCM Acupuncturists” is a one-day course that introduces key Five Element diagnostic and treatment methods that are not only applicable to the needs of cancer patients, but are applicable to any patient that is not improving with your TCM treatment. Participants will gain the tools to effectively diagnose and treat specific blocks to treatment such as Aggressive Energy and Husband-Wife imbalance that occur more commonly in cancer patients. Participants will also learn the Five Element method of pulse taking, as well as how to diagnose and treat Exit and Entry blocks to treatment. Participants will learn how to effectively integrate these Five Element treatments into a TCM practice.

“Integrating Five Element and Evidence-Based Cancer Treatment” is a 4-hour course that addresses special Five Element acupuncture treatment considerations specific for cancer patients, and how to combine Five Element treatment with Evidence-Based acupuncture protocols for many of the common symptoms of cancer treatment. It is designed to follow Amy Sears’ 4-hour morning course entitled “Practical Aspects of Integration in a Hospital Setting”, taught on the same day.

Participants will apply their knowledge of Five Element treatment of blocks to treatment progress such as Exit/Entry blocks, Aggressive Energy, and Husband-Wife imbalance to cancer patients. Participants will also learn how to integrate Evidence-Based protocols with Five Element treatment to better manage the symptoms of cancer treatment into an integrated “root and branch” treatment approach. Many common symptoms of chemotherapy and radiation will be correlated with specific acupuncture points with proven efficacy. Participants will learn how to integrate these different treatment methods for the best patient outcomes.

In this 2-day workshop, 1 1/2 days are taught by Michael Kowalski A.P., Dip.Ac. (NCCAOM), and 4 hours are taught by Amy Sear A.P., Dip.OM.. The whole weekend workshop is approved for 16 CEU’s in total by the Florida Board of Acupuncture. If you have already trained in Five Element acupuncture, you may skip Saturday and attend Sunday only.
